What to Expect

What to Expect

Before you visit

Don’t worry, there isn’t a lot you need to know before you come to Anchor for the first time.  We service times to fit your busy schedule, and we promise to take good care of your kids.  There is plenty of parking, and we are already excited to share Anchor with you.  Most of all, we want you to feel confident and comfortable when you walk into Anchor for the first time.  Here’s just a little information to help you do just that.

Where to Park

We utilize a lot of our grassy area at Anchor for parking, therefore, there are plenty of places to park.  The oval concrete drive on the west side of the building gives easy access to all parking.  We have a row of Guest Parking on the south side of the building for our first time guests.  We also have a whole row of Handicap Parking all along the west side of the building.  These spaces give easy access to all entrance doors.

What should I wear?

You’ll see suits and you’ll see shorts and t-shirts.  There isn’t a dress code at Anchor.  We don’t care what you wear, we just want you to come hear the message of Jesus, enjoy your time with us, and come back again.  Be comfortable and be you!

Children & Students

Anchor loves children and families!  We have plenty of room for your kids to experience the love of Christ in a way that makes sense to them.

Wednesday Evening Youth Groups
Every Wednesday we have a special youth group program for elementary young people (1st – 5th grade).  We offer a free meal for the kids at 6:00 pm and then they go to an hour session filled with learning activities and lessons that help them grow in their faith.  The Elementary Youth Group meets in Room B of the Educational Center.

Your kids are in good hands with our dedicated volunteers.  We believe it’s never too early to tell kids about the love of God and that they can help tell His story to the world.

Student Programming (7th-12th grade)
– Bible School is at 9:45 am in Room A of the Educational Center.  Your teens will be encouraged to live out their faith in practical ways with their friends, their neighbors and their community.  Led by our dedicated volunteers, the Bible School class will impact your student’s life and challenge them to learn to say yes to God in their own life.

Service Styles & Elements

We have services at 8:30 am and 11:00 on Sunday mornings during the months of December – April.  In the months of May – November we have one worship service at 11:00 am.

Worship Style

We have a blended worship style utilizing current worship songs as well as some of the traditional hymns.  Our worship leader, Robert Maxwell and a worship team of dedicated followers of Jesus, lead the congregation in worship singing praises to God.

Communion is served every Sunday at the pews in all of these services.  We encourage you to take the bread and juice as it is passed and then hold it for your personal reflection.  You are encouraged to partake of the bread when you feel ready and then the congregation will take of the cup together.  We believe communion is open to all believers, and is the perfect reminder Jesus’ love for us.

Offering is collected each Sunday and is a time set apart where members of Anchor can honor their commitment to the Lord and the mission of being the hands, feet, and heart of Jesus.

Classes for Adults

We offer a variety of Sunday morning classes at Sherwood Oaks. Click here for more information on our current offerings and studies.

We offer a Wednesday evening Bible Study each week at 6:45 pm.  This study is led by our Sr. Minister and focuses on different books of the Bible.
